Using the Spend Optimizer

Find the best card for every spending category based on CPP-weighted earn rates.

  1. Check the dashboard

The spend optimizer widget appears on your dashboard under the Analytics section. It shows a ranked list of spending categories with the recommended card for each.

  2. Understand the rankings

Each category shows the best card based on effective value — not just raw multiplier. A 3x card in a program worth 2.0 CPP outranks a 4x card in a program worth 1.0 CPP because the effective value per dollar is higher.

  3. Add cards and multipliers

The optimizer uses your card portfolio and configured multipliers. If a card is missing or its multipliers are not set, it will not appear in the rankings. Go to Cards, edit each card, and ensure category multipliers are filled in.

  4. Set accurate CPP valuations

CPP valuations drive the effective value calculation. Set each program's CPP value on the card's points program settings. Use community benchmarks (e.g., 1.5 CPP for Chase UR, 1.8 CPP for Amex MR) or your own target redemption values.

  5. Review when your portfolio changes

When you add a new card or change multipliers, revisit the optimizer to see if your best-card recommendations have changed. The rankings update automatically — no manual recalculation needed.
